Offsets are carbon credits that have been purchased from projects that are taking meaningful steps to decrease the carbon dioxide (CO2) in our atmosphere, with the goal of helping our planet and preventing climate change. Zerofootprint secures carbon credits from a number of different sources that demonstrate effective and responsible means of reducing the CO2 emissions that lead to climate change. We attempt to keep our sources of credits as diversified as possible, and have an ongoing program dedicated to developing innovative and high quality offset projects.
Currently, credits from the following Canadian projects are available to individuals using the Retail Offset portal: Forest Restoration Project, Landfill Gas Recovery Project and the Tire Recycling Program (See tabs above).
Each project meets our selection criteria to ensure:
The project creates a measurable decrease in carbon emissions that would not otherwise have taken place.
Verification: the project has been verified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), or its equivalent, and has been fully audited by an independent body.
The project has been verified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), or its equivalent, and has been fully audited by an independent body.
Credible Registry :
The project sits in a credible registry that retires offsets when purchased.
Risk Management :
Proper risk management and high standards of project management are employed at all times on project sites.
Carbon Leakage :
All possibilities of unanticipated CO2 emissions have been accounted for by an in-house group of graduate-level climate and environmental scientists.
The project will make a meaningful contribution to the long-term sustainability of the communities in which it exists.
